Three ARMS students are the winners in this year’s Massachusetts Science Poetry Contest. They are: Katy King, second place, Most Expressive Poem; Will Budington, third place, Most Humorous Poem; and Ben Berger, Honorable Mention, Most Humorous Poem.

The Amherst Regional Middle School has received two Excellence Grants from the Amherst Education Foundation, totaling $23,000.
The River Science in Action grant, for $12,000, provides an extensive, hands-on opportunity for all seventh and eighth grade students to learn science by studying our local Fort River. Our Middle School science teachers will develop a sustainable ecology curriculum aligned to state science standards in partnership with a respected community organization, the Rushing Rivers Institute. This curriculum, once completed, will benefit all middle school students, year after year.
The Vela Scholars Summer Program grant helps 80 Amherst Regional Middle School students reduce summer learning loss and close the achievement gap with creative and engaging academic and enrichment experiences. A partnership with Amherst College, this proven summer program supports students in need of core academic support and low-income students who plan to pursue honors math work. This grant from AEF was for $11,000.
