ARMS Undergoes Renovation of its Exterior Windows

The replacement of four hundred of the exterior windows of the forty-year-old Amherst Regional Middle School building began on December 19th, 2011 and is expected to be finished by March 20th, 2012. There will be minimal interruptions to the students’ learning environment, as each room is expected to take a day to complete.

ARMS Chorus Sings at Springfield Falcons Game

The ARMS Grade 8 Chorus sang the National Anthem at the start of the Springfield Falcons hockey game and then stayed to watch the game on Sunday, January 15.

ARMS Leo Club Visits Shriners Hospital

The Leo Club at Amherst Regional Middle School visited Shriners Hospital in Springfield on Monday, December 19. Twelve eighth graders brought cheer to patients at the hospital and sang Christmas carols, played games, and read to the pediatric patients.

ARMS Students Celebrate “Day of the Dead” in an Unique Way

Fat Albert, Michael Jackson and family members of ARMS students are among the recipients of colorful “ofrendas” (alters) decorating the middle school library in honor of the holiday “Day of the Dead.” Adorned with candles, marigold flowers and pictures, these creative representations celebrate in a joyful way those who have passed.

The holiday, which took place over the course of three days beginning October 31, is annually celebrated at ARMS through the efforts of world language teacher, Alicia Lopez.  In past years, a large group altar was constructed in the library.

Local Youths Confront Bullying Through Drama

The ActSmart Improvisational Acting Company, founded and directed by Becca Greene-Van Horn, is a group that consists of teens and tweens from Amherst Regional High School, Amherst Regional Middle School, and North Star. These young actors use their talent, creativity, and knowledge to problem-solve using dramatic roleplay.

ActSmart meets at the Bangs Community Center every Thursday and is sponsored by the town of Amherst through the LSSE.

After School Activities Boom at ARMS

The 2:20 bell at ARMS may mean the end of classes but every day after school there is slew of clubs and activities that provide students with a mix of extracurricular activities, right in their own school and free of charge.

This year the school is sponsoring 19 clubs, including cooking, art, soccer, and the ever popular drama club. The clubs, such as ‘Lyrics to Go,’ a club focused on writing music to express oneself are a vital part of the ARMS learning environment.

Fifth Annual Amherst-Pelham Regional Schools Latino Achievement Night

The 5th Annual Amherst-Pelham Regional Public Schools Latino Achievement Night will be celebrated on May 20, 2011 at Amherst Regional Middle School, 170 Chestnut Street.  The event will begin at 6:30pm and all families, friends, staff and community members are invited to attend. 

Under the direction of Superintendent of Schools, Maria Geryk and Director of Interventions & ELE, Dr. Marta Guevara, and in keeping with the Social Justice Commitment of the Amherst-Pelham Regional Public Schools, the 5th Annual ARPS Latino Achievement Night aspires toward equity of opportunity, inclusion, respect and community-building in and out of the classroom.
